blog and life update

Hello and happy new year, this blog is still not dead! I'd just got back into a sewing rhythm when stuff went wrong again, except this time it was different stuff. I don't want to go too far into it, but suffice to say I have seen quite enough of my local hospital except I will have to keep seeing it since I'm now in a clinical drugs trial. The whole thing made me pretty depressed and I didn't touch my sewing machine for two months. I have now managed to finish something, which has lifted my spirits enough to return and post an update.

What I'm not going to do this time is make any commitments to my previous regular schedule. Eventually that's the goal, because under normal circumstances that works really well for me. But the normal circumstances will have to come before the regular posting. I don't know when my next garment post will be, either. Honestly I think a large part of it will depend on how good the new hairdresser I'm seeing this afternoon is. I have a few finished items to post - I had several made and ready to photograph before everything went wrong again - but taking proper project photos feels like a bit of a leap from where I am now.

On the other hand, I do want to keep posting even if non-project posts get zero engagement. One of the most helpful things I've done to get myself moving again was actively surround myself with sewing stuff. Looking at fabric online, going through my stash, watching YouTube videos of people just getting on with whatever they're making (not the big ambitious stuff, just the actual process of making, like, bog-standard skirts). I'm planning to take myself to Walthamstow next week which will hopefully result in a fabric haul, and I've also been working on a post about my utterly disastrous first dressmaking class. It won't be every Monday like clockwork, but I am planning to keep in touch and do what I can.

Thank you to everyone who still swings by here occasionally. May your 2022 be a bit less shit than the previous two years!

blog note

Barring some sort of terrible disaster I will be on a plane to St Lucia right now, so I'm taking a break for a couple of weeks. At first I had it in my head that I was going to queue up content over the time I was away, but then I decided I couldn't be arsed. We will all cope quite adequately if I don't post pictures of my amateur sewing while I go on holiday.

Normal service will resume on the 17th, with a 1940s wrap dress, various holiday pieces, and my first ever swimsuit, which I finished last night because my planning skills are exemplary. See you later!

blog update

So! I have moved out of the place I've been living for the past two years, and am currently existing amongst boxes at my boyfriend's flat until our actual new place to live becomes available at the end of the month.

Pictured: chaos. Also our legs. Patrick is wearing extraordinarily pink socks.

This is not a great set-up for sewing, though I brought several works-in-progress with me (I didn't do nearly as well as I thought I was going to at that) that I might be able to finish during this time, but I'm not counting on it. For this reason I've only scheduled one post per week during August, which I've already photographed so as not to subject you to the Fort of Shit any more than necessary. Incidentally, I'm quite grumpy that I've spent the last six months diligently going through my stuff on a monthly basis and donating multiple bin bags full of stuff to charity, and yet when it comes time to move I still have this stupid amount of stuff. I suspect I'll be doing another clear-out when it comes time to unpack at the new place. "Is this a thing I really want to find a place for in my new Palace of Sophisticated Adultry? No? Then IT MUST GO."

Adultry is a word now. I've decided.

So that's the deal. Slightly reduced posting schedule, all photos will be in my old garden til the end of the month, and my next few weeks are likely to be quite awkward and squished. On the plus side, I can catch Pokemon from the sofa now. Whoever rolled their eyes and shouted "nerd!" can kindly quiet themselves down. Thank you.
